Elks Home Service Program
Annual Christmas Charity
Since the early 1960s, Elks members have worked year-round with local community members and community organizations to procure shoes, coats, hats, gloves, hygiene items, school supplies, books, children’s toys, and food for economically-distressed families in Centre County, PA during the Christmas season. The Elks leverage assistance from Toy-for-Tots, major grocery stores and chains, and local businesses in order to support this effort. Elks members also work year-round to raise funds for this project through raffles, email solicitations, newsletter articles, and personalized visits to local businesses. However, the outcomes of these efforts have not kept up with the growing need in our community. At its inception, the Christmas Charities Project provided services to approximately 50 families. In 2014, with the help of over 100 Elks members and officers, we assisted over 260 families through this project.
